Be at peace among yourselves. And we urge you, beloved, to admonish the idlers, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with all of them. See that none of you repays evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to all. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
1 Thessalonians 5:13b-18
“Give thanks in all circumstances.” This is not easy to do when our world is falling apart around us. I remember when my husband was diagnosed with kidney cancer. My whole world fell apart, and I had a hard time remembering what I was thankful for. Since that time, I have found that when I give thanks I am in a better frame of mind. Thanksgiving helps me to live a life of grace in the midst of tough circumstances. Being thankful helps me to get past the struggle and closer to the solution.
This has been a hard year for the entire world. As we live our lives in the midst of this struggle, let’s take some time to think about the good things that have happened this year. I know at least one good thing has happened to you this year. I can list several. You might want to start a gratitude journal, or just take some time each day remembering all you are grateful for.
This week is Thanksgiving in the US. This is the week that we set aside to remember the good things in our lives. I encourage you to continue the practice of gratitude.
- What are you thankful for?
-Please take a moment.-
-Take some deep breaths.-
- Breathe in: Thank
- Breathe out: You
Loving God, thank you for all that you have created. The earth is full of life that is unique and abundant. We thank you for all of creation. It is when we are in the midst of creation that we can feel your power and your love. Thanks for being with us through all circumstances in our life.
